		19 x 19 compacted rotation resistant (7) Compact 19 is recommended for both multipart load and single part fast line applications. The compact strands help make this rope resistant to drum crushing.
		Wire Rope- 6x19 Classification (24) This classification of wire rope has the greatest range of application. It covers all six strand wire ropes containing as few as 19 wires per strand but not greater than 26 wires per strand. There are many different arrangements for these wires in the strand. The constructions in this classification with the greater number of wires are usually more flexible while the ones containing fewer wires are more resistant to abrasion and pressure.
		Wire Rope- 6x37 Classification (20) This classification of wire rope covers ropes containing six strands with the number of wires per strand varying from a minimum of 27 to a maximum of 49. These ropes offer greater flexibility because of the greater number of wires in their construction. This classification is normally found in ropes of larger diameters or in situations where small sheave or drum diameters exist.
		Wire Rope- Rotation Resistant 8x19 & 19X7 Class (15) 8x19 Classification rotation resistant ropes are recommended for hoisting unguided loads with a single-part or multipart line. 19x7 is recommended for hoisting unguided loads with a single-part line only.
		Galvanized Wire Rope 6x7 (9) This construction is used where ropes are dragged on the ground or over rollers, and resistance to wear and abrasion are important factors.
		Galvanized Wire Rope 6x19 (28) The 6 x 19 Classification is the most widely used. With a good combination of flexibility and wear resistance, this class can used in a wide range of machinery and equipment.
		Galvanized Wire Rope 6x37 (34) Wire ropes of this class are more flexible than 6x19 class ropes due to the greater numbers of wires per strand, however the resistance to abrasion is less than 6x19 class ropes.

Wire Rope Introduction

Wire rope is one of the greatest inventions for my sound and lighting company. We have found many uses for wire rope. Certainly when we are hanging lighting equipment. You see insurance is very tough to get in this industry and when your wire rope meets their specifications you know your all set. We have used up to 75 light fixtures in some of our stage set ups. Just imagine if we used some type of imitation wire rope. We would probably end up hurting someone. We hang some of our laser lights 80 feet in the air and some of them weigh about 45 pounds.

We also use wire rope for hanging speakers. Do you know how much some of our speakers weigh that hang off a truss? Up to about 110 pounds. Without wire rope we could never do large shows or arenas. We use Bilco for our wire rope needs they give us great services.

Well wire rope is manufactured from many rods or a wire strand that creates rotating layer around a central fixed rod or wire. For instance a wire strand with one central wire and a layer of 6 wires around it would create a seven wire strand. Now if you were to add another layer of 12 wires to the existing layer those wires would then become a 19 wire strand and so forth and so on. So in describing the name of wire rope the first number tells you haw many strands there are and the second number tells you how many strands are in each wire. For instance a wire rope usually called hoisting rope 6 X 19 would have six stands and nineteen wires in each strand. Hope this doesn't confuse anybody and it makes your wire rope decision a little easier.

Wire rope is an invention that changed modern architecture. It has changed the way we live, how we build.

Wire rope is a relatively new invention. . The first uses of wire rope were noted in Europe in the 1600's. There was little development or wire rope until 1849. This is when the wire rope we know today was invented.

The modern wire rope was developed in the United States. The greatest development of the modern day wire rope was made between the years 1849 and1889.

In the German Harz Mountain silver mines, wire rope was used as a hoisting cable. The wrought iron strands were hand twisted to create the wire rope. The identical size strands were then twisted around four strands with a similar process as traditional rope making.

These strands of wire rope were called Albert Ropes after the inventor William Albert. The Albert wire rope was not flexible. The damp atmosphere in the mines caused rottage of the material. Because of the difficulty of making the wire rope development was abandoned in the 1850's

In London at the same time wire rope was being developed by Andrew Smith.. He was trying to make ship rigging. Robert Neval created a wire rope that was made by machines. He patented this process. This 6-strand wire rope each containing its own core and twisted around a central core became the standard for industry.

John Roebling a surveyor for the railroad became interested in wire rope because of its use on the trains. Wire rope was used to pull trains up steep inclines. Roebling invented a process for twisting 19 wires together making a hexagonal shape rather then round.

He later devised the multi diameter strand wire rope. With many later developments Roebling devised many different types of wire rope that are still in use today. His greatest achievement was the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. If it wasn't for his wire rope the bridge could not have been built.
