Although wire ropes can withstand a lot of abuse, they are not indestructible. Wire ropes can carry lots of weight without breaking, but that doesn't mean that they cannot break. There are two things to do to ensure that you get the longest life out of your wire ropes, and these two things are:
1) Getting, using, and maintaining proper wire rope gear
2) Using the wire rope in a way that the manufacturer intended
The construction, machinery, and coating of a wire rope will determine how the rope should be used. A rope can only bend certain ways and can only lift up to a particular weight. Pushing your rope past its limits will ultimately break the rope, which can cause severe harm to workers and materials. You should never exceed the Work Load Limit of the Wire Rope.
